If you are in Udaipur for a few days, then do travel to Haldighati, which is 40 kms north of the city. It is as you rightly guessed, the famous battlfield where Maharana Pratap defeated Akbar. You can also check out the historic temples of Nathdwara, Nagda, Kankroli and Eklingji, if you are willing to travel a little. A little further away from Jodhpur is Deogarh, which is 135 kms from Jodhpur. The magnificent though has now been converted into a hotel, it still is worth a visit.

The closest airport is the Dabok airport, which is merely 25 kms from the City center. The railway station is at a distance of 4 kms from the City Center. It is connected to Delhi, Ahmedabad and Jaipur. The bus terminus is 2 kms from the railway station. Udaipur is very well connected with most cities by rods. You can either take a bus to the city or hire a cab/taxi.
